Buying Connectors from eBay

Post by phyl »

I've found plenty of cheap panel mount connectors on eBay like

these:

Anyone here bought any connectors from GLS Audio or other eBay stores? Any problems?

The price sure seems right - about $1.50 a piece.

(I edited your post to shrink the long URL so it won't cause everyone to scroll sideways; if you click the edit button yourself, you can see the syntax needed to do that. In fact, here's the text file I cut and paste from when doing this, in case you need to post a long link in future -

Connectors are not the place to go on the cheap in your setup. Switchcraft or Neutrik are the way to go. Be weary of "off-brands".

Yeah.

As Sam said, buy Neutrik or Switchcraft. You'll be much better off. I've tried and used off brand connectors before, and bottom line...they've always sucked. I've had pins pull out, they don't fit w/ other connectors well (tight fit or loose fit), etc.

There is nothing wrong with connectors from ebay, just make sure they are Neutrik or Switchcraft and not knockoffs.

Those connectors show are Chinese knockoffs and when they make them, they always don't fit right. I had a friend that bought a few hundred maybe even thousand i don't remember and none of them would work with a standard Neutrik/SC connector. Those no-names are bad news.

And if the do work they are built like junk so they will break over time which you rarely ever see with good connectors.

I weighed a Rat Shack knockoff of the Switchcraft 3502 (RCA connector) on a lab scale several years ago, then weighed the real deal; there was enough metal in the Switchcraft to make 2.4 of the Rat Shack version - (gee, I wonder why they bend when you try to solder to 'em :? ) Steve
