DIY Acoustic Isolation Rackmount Box/Case?? Any Ideas??

Hello everyone,

I have viewed this forum for quite some time, but I'm now starting to build a basement studio so I figured I'd ask a few questions and see what kind of response I can get.

I searched hundreds of posts on the forum, but was unable to find anything related to my question, so here it goes.

I'd like to build an Iso-box for my Rackmount PC for protools, and my Rackmount UPS (very loud, at least 40db). I only need the box to have about 12 rack spaces (12 RU). Does anyone have any good ideas about acoustically treating the box and a good construction sketch? I've purchased a temperature controlled PC fan controller that I plan to use with a couple of 120mm silent fans and an old CPU power supply, but I'm not sure the best way to move air through the box and still keep it quiet. Another reason for the fan controller I bought is that it has a built in alarm system to let me know if one of the fans stops working. I'll be mounting the nice little loud speaker on the outside of the box so I can hear if there's a problem.

I'm looking to get about a 20db drop in noise if it's possible. I should also add that the UPS and DAW PC won't be in the room with me. It's going to live in a machine room, but that room, of course, shares a wall with both the Iso-booth and control room, so I'd like to get it as quite as I can.

Also, I did see the "Studio Racks/Furniture Avaiable" Sticky and plan to contact Mr. Jon Barrett for any ideas, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to create a new post for people looking to build a DIY Iso-box also.

Thanks for the link. I had not seen that posting. I'll definately use some of what that person did.

Anyone else have any ideas, thoughts, and/or opinions?
