How much mass to stop sound?

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

How much mass to stop sound?

Post by Paul Cavins »

Hey guys-

I'm thinking about cheaply trowing up some drywall in a practice space to avoid the parallel wall problem. No soundproofing, just changing the acoustic dimensions in the room.

How much of a wall is needed?

Thanks-

PC,

first go here:

read it and follow it - then come back and tell us about your room - perhaps rephrase the question - it seems to totally contradict your thread heading.
