Aloha,
Got another panel done...one to go, and a few more mounting blocks, and she'll be ready to fly.

WOW! "Professional Grade" there Kendale...
What did you come up with about supporting the weight on your ceiling?

Aloha Stan,
Thanks. I don't know about "professional grade" but it's certainly "industrial sized" and hefty to boot.
What did you come up with about supporting the weight on your ceiling?
I've got a contractor friend coming over tomorrow to help locate the trusses (vaulted ceiling). After determining where the trusses are, I may install a few more mounting blocks to help distribute the weight more evenly. That's the plan at least. We'll see what actually happens when it happens.
In the meantime, the rear wall absorbers are next.

Aloha,
And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness.

Aloha,
Tried to post this last night but couldn't get on the web
Updates:
- Test fired cloud lighting - all systems go.
- Contractor friend came by tonight to assess cloud install. Will try to schedule sometime later this week.
- Cable install: studio is now re-wired with (3) Mogami TRS-TRS snakes, (3) Mogami Dsub-TRS (2) Mogami monitor feeds to be installed next.
Stopped by client's shop yesterday just to say hello. He told me he's got 10 instrumentals he'd like to record for his next project as soon as the current project is done. Cool.
He also suggested I take home a couple of the MXL large diaphram mics he just got in to see if we can use them on his next project. Very cool.
So tonight I fired up the MXL M3-B Silicon Valve for a test drive. Not bad, especially for the price. I found the overall sound a bit scooped in the mids, but pleasantly so. Oddly, the mic casing was a bit microphonic, although it's probably fine in the mic stand adapter.
Next up was the V67i. On the warm setting, the mic had a nice proximity effect, good for radio broadcast type apps. The bright setting was a bit on the bright side, but still nice. Good potential for adding a little zip to dull sounding instruments and/or voices. The mic casing was nice and damped with no microphonics.
I think the V67i would be a viable and affordable addition to the home studio mic locker.
As a point of comparison, I used the AT 4050 that I've had for awhile now. The AT displayed more mids than either of the MXL's, and I thought was a bit more even sounding and quieter.

Aloha,
Okay, since we've got the contractor scheduled for later this week, I 've got a question regarding the orientation of the cloud install. I know I've read about it somewhere on the forum, but it escapes me at the moment. My question is: "Which is the correct orientation for the cloud install? Pic 1 or 2?" Thanks

Aloha,

My guess is pic 1. Am I correct?

Assumptions -
Drawing is somewhat to scale
Clouds have no solid backs behind absorbent
In that case, pic 2 would be better, because geometrically it "hides" more of the vaulted ceiling - if you draw lines from speaker to UN-treated ceiling behind the mix position, there's a possibility of reflections back to the mix position (as shown) and Pic 2 comes closer to absorbing these reflections.
Moving the cloud rearward a bit might take care of this; if not, a second one above and to the rear may be necessary - something like this... Steve

Hmm, scale huh?

Okay, here's my first attempt at Sketchup.
Assumptions - Clouds have no solid backs behind absorbent
That is correct.

So, it looks like I may have to do another one, huh? Cool. I just talked it over with mrs kendale and she's for it. Very cool.
Thanks, Steve.

Aloha,
Say, I have a question about posting sketchup pics. It seems that I am unable to attach an actual pic in Sketchup with the trial version. Is this correct?

Dunno, don't use it other than the free viewer. Not that it's not cool, just no time to learn yet another drawing interface. You might try PMing John for an answer... Steve

You can export JPEGs from the trial version. I think it's under the FILE menu.

Yup, if you can it will be:
File>Export>2D Graphic...
I thought the free version was fully functional for 30 days.
