Kevin, what's above your joists; is it living space, a flat roof, or?? And overall, how much isolation do you think you need (and why?) and what's your budget, what's behind the insulation shown in the pix, how close are neighbors, etc - in fact, if you check out the "Don't even THINK about..." topic at the top of the page, everything that's in bold type is a good start on the info we need... Ok,
My budget is around $2000
I live in the middle of nowhere so neighbors are not an issue.
On the other side of wall with door is a boiler A relatively loud one
hench one need for soundproofing.2. I have 3 children(loud ones)
yet another need for isolation.Live drums and loud guitars will be played.3 of the walls are facing woods, wall with piano has hallway on otherside.Bedrooms and bathrooms above those joists in ceiling. Most interested in stopping sound from above and walls facing living space. You have been very helpful and I think I've decided to go 2 layers 1/2" on ceiling and 2 layers 5/8 DW on walls.Do you think that will do the trick?I'm not going for total isolation. By the way, That's 2 walls with a dead space and 2 safe and sound doors in front of the boiler. The drywallers are coming out in a week or so.Your suggestions are much appreciated.I need to make a decision soon. Thanks very much for your time!
Peace,
Kevin
