Soffit mount Mackie 824's and position

Hi,

I have read the different threads on soffit mounting the Mackie 824's.

I decided I am going to try it but was wondering position.

If my mix position is 38% from front wall will the Mackie's have enough throw?

Are people who are using Mackie's or similar monitors soffit mounting them but sitting closer?

Thanks!

Eric

Size of room? Listening level desired?

Soffit mounting makes bass louder, compared to freestanding with the same eq settings. If you are currently limited at loud levels by bass distortion, soffit mounting will let you go louder.

Hi,

wow forgot to post room!

Room size is 15' 6" x 14' 6" x 8' ceiling

Listening level..try and follow Bob Katz K metering..about 80 db max

Any adittional volume would be great..sometimes tracking bass guitar can get levels up before artist feel it and such.

Thanks for the reply!

With what you have described, they will work fine soffit mounted at the listening levels you wrote.

Enjoy!

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I have attached a rough sketch of the room.

Does anyone know if this spacing would work with
the Mackie HR824's. Is it too wide for these nearfields?

I read in a post that John S. said he has done rooms with
90 degree speaker angles. Anyone else?

Thanks!

I sure would like to read that post about "90 degree" speaker angles.

John Sayers wrote:Yes but you splay the walls with more angle, i.e. at 22.5 degrees as opposed to 12. I find it helps where you have a small room and the 60 degrees doesn't give you much width between the speakers relative to your sitting position.

Music Farm studios http://johnlsayers.com/Pages/Music_Farm2.htm was built as a 90 degrees system. I worked there for years with and loved it. It was one of the best sounding rooms I've ever worked in and other engineer/producers recorded top selling albums out of this room.
