Racks as sound element

Hi,

I just wondering if 19 inch racks, with equipment screwed in, can have hearable effects on room acoustic.
Especially when they are closed cases.
They should act like a kind of helmholz resonators, shouldn't they?

The only affects I can imagine you'd get from a rack of gear are all negative: rattles, being placed at a reflection point where absorption is needed, being in a corner where bass traps are needed, and so forth.

I was thinking the same thing. Not to mention the noise. I can't see much up side to having a full 40 U rack in the room, form the acoustics point of view.

Hi,

I mean negative effects. I do not (really...) thought about (ab)using a rack for soundtreatment.
And - of course - I do not mean obvious things like reflections or even rattles or taking space for real soundproofment.
It was just an idea, that racks can form a kind of closed room with slots.
