a little question for you thomas!
you recommend keeping the entire front wall reflective for soffit mounted speakers right?.
the reason im asking is that alot of the pro designed studios like Russ Bergerhttp://www.rbdg.com and Francis Manzella http://www.fmdesign.com looks like they have the soffits and entire front wall covered with cloth[/url]
Could you explain how cloth on the baffle and front wall affects speaker performance?

could just be Guillford of Maine cloth, which is acoustically transparent.

you dont happen to know which "model" of the Guliford cloths that is acoustically transparent?, the have so many different materials.
I like the idea of cloth front cause i have no idea how to make the front wall look good with reflective materials.

As long as it's not too thick, cloth shouldn't have much of an effect. If you plug your baffle width into my 1D Wall Bounce Calculator and set D to zero you'll see the 6 dB low end shelf. Only the frequencies that rise significantly above the 0 dB line are influenced by the soffit baffle. The higher frequencies are only influenced by the speaker baffle. So, if the cloth has little absorption in the range of the shelf, it will have little impact on the direct response. However, the cloth will certainly inflence the ambient response of the room.
