Confused.. slat walls that are not resonators?

I keep seeing examples of slat walls that are not resonators.
I understand that when making a helmholtz resonator, you first find the frequencies you want to absorb, and then calculate (or use the excel sheet) the slat width/spacing/gap in order to absorb these frequencies.
But often i see slat walls that are named like QRD diffusers (P7 P17 P47 and etc..), what are those? Example.
I know that by using the QRDude program for example, i can design a 1D or 2D QRD diffuser, but how do i convert the design to a slat wall design?
Also, there is this: Example. I assume that these are meant for adding a bit of life to a "too dead" room, which is exactly what i want. but how do i know which one to choose from all these panels? some of these slats look randomly ordered, is it? if not, then according to what?
