Hi audiophiles,

I need to build some superchunk/ bass traps for the corners of my control room and live room. I want to base my design off of this thread because I think it's really clean: http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewt ... =3&t=15305


Here's my issue: In my control room, the right front corner has a heating duct on the floor so i would have to raise the superchunk/bass trap a little to be fire safe.

My questions are:

1) should I raise the left front corner to match this?
2) would there be a significant loss in bass trapping ability by raising the superchunk a couple of inches?


Also, on another note, the right back corner, (behind listening position) is about 2 1/2" before it hits a door. What would I do to treat this corner? Just treat the door a lot? Definitely not wide enough of a corner for a bass trap....

There is no reason to raise the other side to match aside from aesthetic reasons - perhaps you feel it looks strange when they are different, in that case match them because it will bother you psychologically over time, seriously.
The major concentrations are indeed in the tricorners of the room but raising the absorber a couple of inches shouldn't have any major impact.
You might want to place one of those 1/4 round duct deflectors over the register if you haven't already got one.

Regarding the corner with the door, You can place thick flat absorber panels on either side of the corner , i.e. one on the door and one on the adjacent wall. This is an oft used technique for this situation, but it also kind of depends on whether the door swing will allow it. If the latter is a problem, you may need to make one panel moveable, or if you're mechanically gifted, a hinged arrangement of a single panel straddling the corner which swings out of the way when the door opens.

Exactly. A couple of inches won't make a huge difference.

On the door issue: another option is to build something on wheels, that you can roll in front of the door when needed, then roll out the way again to open the door.

I like the duct covering, will definitely get me one of them! I like this rolling trap idea as well, any threads on this on any forums that you could link me to?
