"floating" soffits

not sure if that's the correct term, but i'm leaning toward a design similar to the attached pic below. Now, my concern is where/how are the soffits supported from? The front wall? The ceiling rafters?

BTW, just wanted to say thanks to John and everyone here for making such a fine forum. One of the few places on the 'net where the S/N ratio is largely favoring the former.

Peace,

A combination of both. The soffit un covered is merely a wood frame for all intents and purposes.

thanks for the reply...

what i'm wondering is if these soffits compromise the integrity of the wall - increasing TL - being attached directly to the inner leaf?

any tips on how to minimize vibrations between the soffits and the inner leaf wall in a design like this? would simply filling the soffit with a bunch of insulation be enough?

or should i just stick with one of the soffit mounting diagrams found in the forum?

thanks again,
