temporary Slot resonator.. (in two parts)

Hi, This is my first post. I've been following a lot of the threads and this seems like a place to get real answers.. SO....
I'm in a rented house, will be looking at purchasing premises soon, but till then I need to make some adjustments to my current room. Having seen a fairly simple square room design at http://www.johnlsayers.com/HR/index1.htm I thought I'd build myself some slot resonators and absorbers. However, this presents the following question..
1) Is a slot resonators effectiveness hampered when not connected to the wall?
2) Will it be further hampered if the slot resonator is seperated into two resonators (two individual cabinets) that sit one on top of the other. This would make it easier to get down the stairs on move out day.
3) Would a more effective two unit design incorporate a bottom half absorber, top half resonator or such like.
Thanks guys
