I would like to get a studio warning light. So far, I have only been able to find these at Markertek:

Is there any other place on-line to get these? I am looking to spend under $150.

DIY!!!... =) it doesn´t seem like a "to hard thing to do"... it surely won´t cost 150$

I thought about DIY but, I am not sure how to do it. Anyone done it?

wouldn't making something like this be really easy? Find a small piece of glass or plexi or anything relatively transparent, make cutout letters that spell "recording" and spray the surface with paint. Make a box, mount a light and bingo.

Or, how about just a red bulb screwed to a light socket that's connected to a switch.

all well and good, but dont you want it hooked up to your record button on your tape machine or i suppose your space bar on your keyboard if your a DAW user? otherwise your filicking a light switch evertime you go into record- could be a nightmare in an OD session, and you'd probably abandon it altogher....

If you're into fairly hardcore DIY, you could dedicate a separate MIDI track from ANY sequencer to control this -

You could just put a note-on for the Recording light at the beginning of each measure, and a note-off at the very end of the song - that way, no matter where you punch in you'd light the light in the first measure after you start, - or, you could get REALLY cute and make the Recording light BLINK - ON on beat 1, OFF on beat 4, for example... okay there must be something that is hooked up to the record button of a tape transport or HDR that will do this... i see this all the time in large commercial facilities- is there something we are all missing?

Pro transports generally have a Tally light connection, typically on the remote control connector; I've not played with HDR's, just analog decks and DAWs; it's possible that some HDR's also have this. Most DAW software doesn't seem to have evolved far enough to implement MMC yet, that would probably be the most practical way to get a Tally light without designing your own. You would still need a hardware unit to convert the MMC command into a contact closure to run the Record light.
