Hey guys, mr.vague here. I've been reading this wonderful place more. What is theory behind a soffit? What is its function? Enlighten me please

The short answer is to remove interference from reflections from behind the speaker and to re-enforce the low end performance. The other important reason is to prevent diffraction at the edges of te monitor cabinet.
