I'm sure the price is greatly based on your needs. Do you want professional recordings? Do you want to spend hundreds on Auralex to have professional quality mixings. I think the price is mostly up to you. If you want a total conversion from barn to studio - with fancy lighting, monitors built into the wall, ect, ect - then it will cost LOTS O' MONEY. But, if you just want demo-type studio I'm sure it can be done for less. I have no real VALUES because I dont know much about design/construction - but this is the general perspective view.

I just started working with a structural engineer to remove a post in my basement. That's who you'll need to talk to for your info. I drew up plans of the shell of my basement and where the beams and posts sat which saved him a trip to my house and me a couple of $. One thing to find out is will the town where you live require you to present a set of prints with an architect's stamp on it. Another option is to talk to a builder in your area to get an idea of cost.
Good Luck,
