Trying to soak up bass getting through the ceiling in the control rm, into attic, and out through soffit vents. Would "hangers" in the attic work? or not? Just a quick fix........nothing major like adding more drywall

. thanks folks

You're looking for isolation via acoustic treatments, and sadly, the world just doesn't work that way. You'll need mass or air or a combination of the two to really stop that low end escaping.

just as i thought, but i had to ask. Maybe adding a of soundboard and MDF or (plywood) to inside of the attic might work???

Right now the ceiling is
DRYWALL <> 2x10 framing <> insulation
then its open to the attic.
I'll try the adding mass to the attic interior(create an attic floor).??????????
Thanks

So, all that's between your noise (sorry, music :=) and the world is drywall, joists, insulation, then a VENTED attic? No wonder you're leaking...
What distance do your 2x10 ceiling joists span (how far between supports) and what centers are they on? (16", 24", etc) - with this info, I can calculate how much more mass you'll need -
Also, are these joists part of truss assemblies, or are they just horizontal boards resting on the walls? Steve

Im on a corner lot and I only have one neighbor to the right of the control rm that i'm worried about. A bit more reduction should work cause I don't really crank the sound up that much. There house is about 10-12 ft from mine.
16"oc and they are 2 x 10 x 22 pretty long. I rechecked with music set at 90db, went into the attic and the meter(radio shack, c-weight, slow) read 65-70db or so. Went outside and pointed the meter at the vents and it read about 60db.

Wish all worked like my walls(45db or so reduction)...........LOL, 2x4 wood frame/brick veneer. The first time I measured was during mid day, this time I measure at night when all was calm and not much outside noise. But if I stand at the street curb of my driveway. I can just here the kick/bass a bit, not much though.
.
I may try to relocate the studio sooning.

Was trying to make it through this year and didn't want to do a whole lot to correct this. But adding to the attic(creating a floor) shouldn't complicate things when I change the studio back into a garage???? Something I had planned to do but never got round to it. and ya, the ceiling joist are attached to the outer walls with an additional 2x4 between the top plate of the wall and the ceiling joists ..............flanking noise maybe?
