Hello all, I'm new to this group...thanks for having it!
OK..I want to construct a room within my garage.
The purpose of the room is to house my project studio which is mainly for compsoing, editing and mixing.
It is not for tracking besides simple overdubs etc.
Because of that, I only need minor soundproofing and really not such a robust construction.

The room would be around 12'X13'. The garage is a 20'X20' with a 8'4'' ceiling. I am pretty set on how the walls will be- a wood frame with drywall panels, the inner panel will be lined with MDF and the outer with 1/8'' super soundproof mat just to get some isolation. I do not need that much really.

What I really don't know how to do is the wooden frame and I really need some kind of step by step tutorial of how to do that.

I assume that after building the frame, laying the drywall is very simple.
So...how do I build a frame? If at all possible try to simplify the explanation. I am a real novice when it comes to construction.
Obviously I would need a door, and some sort of ventilation...

Just build a box, with the uprights space 24'' on centre put it all together,with the wall plates, bang some noggins in sorted! remeber to use a set sqare, mesure once cut twice, its always good to use a machine chop saw, or dimensions saw. Very fast way to build walls.

Also its good when putting door frames in is to assemble the frame first, square it up, screw some wood to it to keep it sqaure, then put the uprights up around it.

main points are to use 2by4 studs, use screws and make sure things are sqaure and true, so when you come to bords on they all line up and you dont have to cut them much. thats why you put your up rights 2 foot on centre.

And if your really not that confident get someone else to do it, but it really aint that difficult you just have to concertrate, and if mess up, get a new bit of wood and do it again.....bodge jobs on dont work with soundproofing.

How do I attach the horizontal 2X4 bard to the concrete slab and to the ceiling?

Also, the 2X4 are 8' tall and my garage ceiling is 8'4''... I guess I will have a 2'' gap when attaching the ceiling 2X4 to the frame support. What do I do with that gap?

your top and bottom boards are 1.5 inches thick each so that gets you 3 inches .... double up the top board and you should be there with 1/2 inch to spare

use screws and raw plugs, or if you can get them hammer fix, just drill the hole and bang them right through, if your building like this, attach the bottom wall plate first, then put the top wall plate into the cieling, but make sure you dont put your top plate screws into anything that isnt solid, so screw into the joist only ok. Then put the uprights in between the two...

Building like this will mean you will have measure and cut most of them, cause you cieling and floor wont necisariliy be level to each other.

Also mate, if your sound profing your better of not ataching the top plate to the ceiling, cut the uprights a bit shorter and put a anther cieling in....like a room within a room. see more on the forum..about that.
and if you dont do that there isnt much point in the extra walls any way..
