Hi All,

I'm thinking about using pocket doors in my new basement studio. Do any of you have any experience installing these? How do you get a good seal using a pocket door?

Neil,

I would reccomend against the use of these doors in a studio setting.

1st off - properly sealing the door would be a nightmare - if possible at all. The fact that the door slides into a pocket means it has to have the freedom to travel that route - and anything that properly seals all 4 sides is going to make that difficult to say the least.

But the is a seperate issue I see here - and that is the typical frame design for a pocket door - they aren't meant for sound isolation systems - and won't tend to work very well for that purpose.

I would stick with "tried and true" in this case.

Nodel - Rod's correct in that it's hard to seal off pocket doors.

On the other hand - they do offer certain advantages.

I used pocket doors in the Left bank design basically because we needed to allow for the piano to be easily moved from room to room.



Whilst they didn't offer total isolation - the isolation offered worked as a trade off to the advantage of being able to easily move the piano plus it allowed the two rooms to be treated as one room when the doors were wide open.
