I use to use some Radio Shack Optimas with a small amp before i went powered. Now I am looking for a single driver powered cubes..... Does anyone have a solution. Other than a boom box. Thanks in advance.

Maybe some cheap surround satellites? Not sure if any have single drivers or not.

Are you wanting single drivers specifically so you can phase cancel the monitoring for a vocalist that doesn't do well with cans, or??!? Steve

No. I want a single driver so that when I listen to the small speaker I am forced to make everthing live in my mix and translate out of that one speaker. The lows need to be able to be heard and the mids get along well together. To get them to work and not tear anything up ...speaker..in the process.

Fostex and Yamaha both do small active keyboard monitor speakers.

Edirol MA-10As are a two way system but are "hailed as the aurotone cubes of the new millennium" according to studiospares.

Gemini pm-100 are sold as entry level dj monitors (active 25w).

Alternatively there are _lots_ of active passive PC speakers around if you want a real tough test, Ranging from really really nasty to "quite good for the size". You would probably be able to get some free, seeing as most new PCs come with speakers and they never get thrown away. Ask around any office workers you know, especially software industry people where they have a steady flow of new machines. Mind you they are pretty cheap.

No crossover = easy! you can get some of the fostex fe series drivers from www.madisound.com for pretty cheap- or do a search for the WR125 full range driver. Any of these would make a rewarding project that is not difficult. Just remeber that any full range woofer is highly directional in the HF so you better be on axis or your mixes will be very bright.
