I have a steel girder running the extent of my house in my basement. There are 3 supports for the girder extending from the girder to the slab basement floor. If you were to knock on the supports you hear a "ping". I plan on building a 2-frame wall for my studio with the supports being located inside the wall frame. I may be wrong, but I assume the girder and the supports will need to be insulated.

If this is the case, what is best to use to insulate them and how?

I am not certain, but Z6061 did this in his room. Hopefully he jump in here!

Are the supports round pipe, rectangular steel tubing, solid wood, I-beams, or?? Steve

They're steel & rectangle; about 3 to 3 &1/2" on each of the 4 sides.
