alternative auralex

I just found a scandinavian fabricant which produses products similar to auralex for lower prices at this website

what do the experts say about these products?

About the same as I'd say about ANY foam product - if you have more money than time and aren't very handy with tools, it can work. Just not as good (for the same thickness) as any 40-60 kG/m^3 fiberglass or mineral wool insulation.
For one thing, the "copy cats" all make their products with these "ridges" and "valleys" - all that does is let them call it thicker than it really is, acoustically. Those variations, even though they LOOK like they should do something, really only let the manufacturer use a die cutter to get an APPARENTLY deeper product out of a solid piece by cutting two mirror image "wavy things" out of one block.
Even the wavy foam will work better if you "turn it around" and place the FLAT side outward... Steve

so I should go for hand made absorbers if I want to gain the best results?

Right - Better absorption per unit thickness, and normally lower cost... Steve
