I have searched around in depth but cannot find any info to confirm the difference between metal doors filled with foam or solid mdf doors. I understand that most people think the mdf doors would be better but nobody can ever back that claim up with any real data. Anyone here have the real skinny on these two types of doors? The reason I'm asking is because I have the oportunity to get two of the metal doors for half the price of the mdf doors from a friend but I want to make sure they are reasonable for isolation before I jump at them...
Thanks,

It's the weight that makes MDF doors superior to metal doors with foam cores. Although a metal door with a foam core is "solid" in the sense that there's no air pocket, and thus, a single leaf (which is a good thing, as long as there's another single-leaf door to complete the mass-air-mass principle), the overall weight of the MDF door is greater. More mass = better.
