Greetings:

This is my first post and thanks for this forum, John!

A PDF of my studio is attached.

As you can see, the desk and monitors face the recording area with nothing in between. I have built a gobo that is 4' x 6', with one side reflective and one side absorbing. Should I use this gobo to "divide" the room by placing it directly behind the monitors, with the reflective side facing me? The monitors are old Event 20/20 bas, front ported designs. With a little help, the top of the gobo will be equal to the top of the monitors. So, since I can't position the monitors to take advantage of wall reflection, should I create reflection, or be happy that I don't have to deal with it in the first place? Sorry if this is a noob question, but that's what I am.

Hi Blake, this is my first post here as well! (Hi to the few peeps here that already know me!)

I would be glad that I ddn't have to deal with the reflection. There's no need to separate the rooms, and purposely introducing a reflector behind the speakers will only create boundary interference problems, and you don't want that.

I would treat the space as a whole; what's best for tracking can be what's best for mixing as well.
