I'm currently in the process of developing a patchbay solution for my studio. I own a Tascam dm3200 , which only has 16 xlr mic inputs and I have 42 inputs in my live room on different walls plates, I need to figure out some routing.

I've read that it is not a good idea to run mics or phantom power through a patchbay. Is anyone doing this effectively?

On the otherhand, I don't want to have to reroute my snakes into the dm3200 everytime I have a different session.

Does anyone have any suggestions or current successful routing scenarios similiar to mine?

You can run phantom through patchbays. Most large format consoles such as SSL, Neve, etc do run phantom through the patchbays.

You just want to be conscious of what you're plugging in and out of them at all times. And plug your mics in last. Especially ribbons.

If I remember correctly, you want fully normalled so the connection is broken when the cable is plugged into either connection.

Wire the first 16 to the most used mic lines you will use so they are hardwired (normalled) in the patchbay. The rest will be just mic tie lines coming up on the bay and patch only as necessary.
