Thanks Giles for your response on "exposed ceiling joists".

I have 3 windows in my basement. The way my studio will be designed, two windows are in the vocal booth, and 1 will be in the control room. There's no way around it.(darn) I want to allow natural light in the studio, add better security, and have a cool look. Glass blocks suffice in meeing these requirements, but will they work in keeping my sound from disturbing the neighbors?

Due to their thickness, glass blocks are much better than regular windows and have a higher STC, so they will work for your situatio there. Plus, they look really cool.
