This is also posted on the Studio Construction site I would appreciate any input.

Here's the deal, another garage studio. After 18 years of mixing broadcast I've finally decided to build a small facility for some outside projects. Most of my work is in Postproduction and have recently been gaining experience in 5.1. I would still like to record the occasional band and as a drummer it would be nice to have a kit miked and ready to go.

These are the current limitations. Refer to attached word doc. The door to the outside cannot move, the bathroom will have to be along the wall that the door to the house is on for plumbing purposes.

The rear of the control room will have a couch that is not shown in the drawing. I was planning on treating the acoustics of the room after the basic structure was completed. Installing bass traps and absorption as needed. Am I missing anything?

Dave - I'm sorry I can't read your file - I'm in an internet cafe until they fix my phjone line and the Word program in this machine reads it as a brown square. No chance of attaching a picture??

Steve has been helping on the construction forum but I do have a question. I would like to do a double sliding glass door between the control room and the vocal booth. But, I'm concerned about all that reflection on one side of the room and not the other, the site line would be nice. Will this destroy the symmetry of the room?

Noticed you've been in the crazy world of live broadcast news, do you still do live shows?

That wouldn't cause problems for RFZ when mixing stereo, but WOULD for surround where you would need that wall absorptive. One way around it would be an absorptive gobo you could put in front of the window while mixing surround, I guess - However, the other downside (see my last post in the OTHER cross-posted thread regarding the degree of isolation you will probably need for foley, etc -

John, when you can, would you please combine this thread with the one in Construction, and pick a spot for it? I'm trying to keep track of enough things already without chasing this around - thanks... Steve

Dave, you don't need to post in both places - whichever spot seems to fit the best will work fine. All three of us tend to check our own areas first, but none of us are against "trespassing" on a regular basis, and it's simpler by far if things stay contiguous. (Don't mind the bitching too much, I get cranky after graveyard shifts...)

I'll stay with the topic in the construction forum. Graveyard I use to do a 3:30 am to 12:30 pm no fun.
