Treatment placement

Post by LukeeeeBennett »

Hello again, It's been a year since I last posted my "I'm 16, HELP" thread.

So, the studio is coming on a treat, we're working with the council and they're buying everything for us which is a HUGE help.

We've decided to re-paint the control room as we're all about making it SUPER comfortable at the moment.

But now, it's time to treat the room. It's quite a long rectangular room and we were wondering if there were any calculators that would help us nail where to put treatment frames.
The desk used to be on the left of that photo under that small white section. (A TINY window)
But, we decided to move it at the bottom to make the room feel bigger and we don't need it to be at the window as we're setting up a mic there and one person will always communicate with them at the window. If we can't handle it then cameras are an option.

Anyway, I would love to find out about some specific rules/get a calculator on where to place treatment.

basically you want to treat first reflection points with 100mm absorbers - wall, ceiling, floor, back wall. then you want to treat modes - corners - vertical as well as floor-wall, ceiling-wall using superchunks, spanning absorbers, or slats. using a mirror to find first reflection points is simple sitting in the mix position - having an assistant move the mirror around until you see the HF drivers in your monitors. mark that spot for an absorber. overhead - a nice heavy cloud will help in multiple ways. use scattered absorption around the room to finalize the balance and desired response.
