Curved diffusor from PVC sewer pipe?

Post by Skies »

Is there any information about DIY curved diffusors?
I am thinking of building some myself.
Theoretically you could make 3 curved diffusors from 1 meter of large PVC. (And some other materials of course.)
So if you get a 5 meter PVC pipe of 60cm diameter for about € 70,- it seems a really good deal :)
Sawing them could be a challenge, I don't know if it can be cut with a normal consumer table saw.

Do curved diffusors actually do a better job than the 'wood blocks' ?
I have no experience with diffusors and I find the curved diffusor idea appealing.

Hi. Please read the forum rules for posting (click here). You seem to be missing a couple of things! :)

Also, search for "poly-cylindrical diffuser". A pipe isn't a true poly-cylindrical curve, but it can still be used in acoustic treatment.

How you use a poly depends on what you want to do! If you explain more about your room, and the problems you are experiencing in it, then we can help you figure out the best way to treat that. It might turn out that polys are a good fit for what you need, or it might turn out that they would not be useful at all.

It's generally not a good idea to start out with treatment that you like then look for a place to use it: it is much more sensible to start out by first identifying what the problems are in your room, then looking for the treatment that can fix them.

Thanks Stuart :)

My post was more intended for curved diffusors in general. Or as you've teached me polycylindrical ;)
I couldn't find any DIY info on it so I though maybe it hasn't been tried before..
I have found some info now on polycylindrical though.

Anyways, if I actually do create some I'll post my findings :)
