You should consider adding an archive hack to the forum. What this does is create dynamically generated static pages that google can crawl. Google will not crawl the posts in a forum otherwise.

This will mean every single thread will end up indexed in Google and the site will get found for many different searches.

I have a political type forum and the archive brings in around 500 new visitors a day via google - of course only a fraction join the forum, but this forum is very targeted to one subject so chances are it would add many new members and help the forum grow in size substantially.

The archive adds a link at the bottom of the page to text only versions of the posts - these are what are picked up by google.
