Resilient channel in Chicago area

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Resilient channel in Chicago area

Post by Shaz »

Hello all,

Anyone know where to buy resilient channels in Chicagoland area? I am assuming it's not available at local home improvement stores like Home Depot, Lowes etc ...

I will try to get the Roxul or OC 703 from SPI, which is close to where I am. If there are any other (cheaper ...) places to buy these also, please let me know.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Some HD's carry it, some don't - mine doesn't. Try calling drywall/insulation supply places (yellow pages) or contractors - I found it locally for around $2 per stick a few months ago by doing that.

Just don't make the mistake of assuming they know how the stuff works or doesn't work... Steve

Thanks Steve, I will check out HDs in my area and try to find some other places.

I thought I would have to buy it through Auralex, their prices seem very high. I am not sure if theirs work better than the ones available locally.

No, it's basically the same stuff. What you're paying for is their stocking and handling. If you find it locally, even with the ridiculous steel price hikes lately, it should be less than maybe $4 per stick; it was $2.14 in the Northwest 5-6 months ago... Steve

Ask them specifically what order they would place things - wallboard/studs/wallboard/RC/wallboard is the WRONG answer... Steve

If I'm not to late.. I'm from Northwest Indiana, about an hour away from downtown Chicago. Dietrich has a plant out of Hammond Indiana which is close to the border. My brother works through Menards and was able to order it through them.

Hope this helps..

Thanks for the information Dan. I actually found it at my local HD, although the price seems a lot more ($5.00 a stick), but atleast it is available.

I will check out Menards and see if they can order it for me. I did ask them about ordering mineral fiber insulation for me and the guy told me, unless I want a truck load of it they won't special order.

I am still in the negotiation phase with my contractor, hopefully he can start the work soon. :D
