sound proofing

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

sound proofing

Post by xdanceshoes »

so when you have a huge rack setup, how to you keep its sound from leaving the house?

foam doesn't work for sound proofing; however, we want to use it for acoustics. we're renting out a house, so we couldn't do any house construction. i've looked into sheetblocks, but i'm not sure if you could install it on the outside of the wall.

thanks!

If you're renting, can't do construction, and are making lots of noise, you're pretty much in trouble - I don't know any way of soundproofing anything like that, short of pulling the power plug; sorry, I'd like to help but short of headphones for everyone, it's just not possible to my knowledge.

For more detail on what people CAN do for soundproofing, check out the REFERENCE section, mainly the "complete section" one and the "floating floor" one - for serious soundproofing, this is what's needed.

No blankets or less than airtight construction will do much at all; as in, hardly noticeable difference... Steve
