Neoprene on the RC?

Will I gain any STC if I put a layer of neoprene between my RC and my 2x5/8" sheetrock on my ceiling? I am asking about attaching strips of EPDM to the RC. I saw a similar thing recomended in a book on studio wall construction.

My thought is that if you're screwing the RC to the studs, you'd kind of kill the point of the neoprene...
