Hey guys, mr.vague here. I've been reading this wonderful place more. What is theory behind a soffit? What is its function? Enlighten me please

The short answer is to remove interference from reflections from behind the speaker and to re-enforce the low end performance. For a detailed explanation go to genelec's website and click on the file detailing soffit mounting. Also do a search here for soffit mounting and you will find a wealth of data.

The other important reason is to prevent diffraction at the edges of te monitor cabinet.

Andre is right. The Genelec site has the best Soffit Mounting tutorials and instructions on the Web
