Help diagnosing prob. with Tannoy reveal actives.

Post by dufo »

I think I have blown a tweeter on these, there is a definate lack of high end from the right speaker, making the mix almost seem like it is playing out just the left speaker. If I jack the system right up with no signal, not only is the right side lack hiss but it has a distinct crackling sound as well, only apparent at full volume though.

Problem here is, how do I establish if the tweeter is blown, the amp driving the tweeter is gone, or both? Maybe the driver is damaged as well, I dont know. Are the any tests I can do at all to establish any of these things? Thanks.

You could pull the other tweeter and switch them. That'll tell you if it's tweeter or amp. Do everything at low volume, and you probably won't hurt anything. Maybe.
