the pink stuff - anyone tried it for bass?

Post by APP »

Hi all,

has anybody tried using those big bundles of fiberglass pink as cheap bass traps in the corners? i 'm thinking of R40, which when bundled is about 24" thick. my room is 10' W X 15' L x 8' H. i've got plenty of high and mid absorbers, but looking to try something like this on a tight budget. can anybody with experience share some insight as to how well they've worked for them, and even better, how far down in frequency they might go?

thanks kindly,

Sure, it'll work ok. As far as frequency, I'm not sure, but it should get down into the 100-200 range with some effect. I'd be inclined to cut them open and fabric wrap them back up.

hi jon,
thanks for your reply. do you suggest removing the plastic because of the high frequency reflections? because i've got plenty of high absorption in this room and i'd rather not have to deal with the fiberglass itself if i don't have to! my plan was to cover on top of the plastic...
thanks again, for this and all your other helpful comments on the board,

Should be ok with the plastic on, I suppose- although my gut feeling is that it's taut enough over the fiberglass that it may have some extra, uh, 'acoustic rigidity' that could make the low end pass around it instead of through.

Not sure, though, need to think about it a little more.
