Dumb question: Bass trap

What’s a bass trap and how does it work? I did a search and saw thread comparing things to a bass trap but being new maybe I need to start at the beginning. I’m assuming it’s the way you position your speakers so the sound reflects towards you to get the full effect of the sound. Right? Im converting a room into my “studio” so Im picking up new tips everyday from this site

Read through the acoustics forum. There should be plenty to read about bass traps, design of them, and how they work. Basically, a bass trap, is just that...a Bass Trap. To trap low frequencies. (although it can be more complicated than that.)
