Reducing sound transmission through a garage door

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Reducing sound transmission through a garage door

Post by Jason Poff »

Hey all,
I am in the middle of relocating, and will be setting up in an old cinder block garage with a peaked roof. The cinder blocks do a pretty good job of reducing loudness outside the garage, but the aluminum roll down garage door might as well not be there for the little sound it blocks. I'm not looking for complete isolation, I just want to "turn down the volume" in the driveway because I work very late, and the neighbor's house is pretty close. I'm thinking about building two walls, one on the inside and one on the outside of the door, and filling the gaps with either 703 or the fluffy insuation, whichever
would be better. I'm looking for any and all ideas on the subject. What do ya'll think.
Thanks,

Jason

Main topic on that thread was floating floors, but the last two pages are more about garage doors and methods... Steve
