Converting Metal Garage into Studio

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Hey Sammy, thanks for updating your profile, even tho your screen name helped  -

"Soundproofing on a budget" would be as short a book as "Poland's Who's Who" and "Italian War Heroes", "Honest Politics for Caring Politicians", etc - although your basic concept is good as far as mass-air-mass, having only one layer of MDF at each location will mean pretty minimal isolation; especially since your corrugated roof metal will weaken that section (isolation-wise) at lower frequencies. I'm not sure how to calculate just how MUCH it will hurt isolation, only that it WILL.

Putting narrow battens over the joints would help a bit, but they would need to be totally glued as well as screwed in place; standard practice for gypsum multilayer walls is no less than 1 foot of offset each way for all joins between wallboards.

I'm about to crash and burn (up since 2pm yesterday, it's 8AM here now :? ) So if you have any ideas for increasing mass without increasing cost, I'd like to hear them... Steve
Soooo, when a Musician dies, do they hear the white noise at the end of the tunnel??!? Hmmmm...
