Newbie needs help building basement studio from scratch

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Newbie needs help building basement studio from scratch

Post by LOST TIME »

I am digging out a basement and adding foundation in my home. I will have about 300 square feet to use for a home studio. I am not knowledegable about construction and will be hiring contractors to build rooms in the basment.

I want to make a nice recording studio, but don't know where to begin. I can't spend a ton of money, but is there a way to get plans for a studio to give to the contractors when they build? I am leaning towards having one room for tracking and mixing.

Thanks for any help.

How about here... please...
I can't spend a ton of money . . .
A ton in hundreds? Singles? Dimes? "A ton of money" is too vague.
. . . is there a way to get plans for a studio to give to the contractors when they build?
Do your contractors have any experience building studios? Do they understand what is involved?

To see what can happen when contractors get cocky, see these drywall contractor horror stories:How about a detailed drawing of the space you have to work with?
