plexiglass for a studio window?

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

plexiglass for a studio window?

Post by blackbox »

hi i searched around for some info on this but i came up with nothing so....
i was wondering if it is a good or bad choice to use plexiglass instead of glass for a window between rooms.
my guess is that it is not a good choice but since it is lighter and somewhat easier to work with i figured i would ask.
thanks!

LIGHTER is the key word; mass kicks ass... Steve

Hello again,

It's been a while since I posted, and the studio is almost done, but I was wondering if before I make a decision on whether to use polycarbonate plexi type glass vs laminate for my control room windows.

I've got 5 openings...
2) 24"x32"
2) 48"x32"
1) 96"x32"
A glass installer in the area wants $2500 for tinted double panes, 1/4 & 3/8 inches installed.

A plexiglass company wants $1800 for 3 sheets of
96" x32" - 1/2"
96"x32" - 3/8"
NOT installed

I know nothing of polycarbonates, so I can't make an informed decision yet. Anyone out there has experience with this and can offer some advice?

BTW... Pics coming soon!

Kevin, polycarbonate is slightly less than HALF the density of glass; don't waste your money, glass is what you want... Steve

Thanks Steve! Great save...
I think the extra $ is worth having someone else do the work too. Let them drop the glass, if you know what I mean.
