Putting in new carpet above my studio- underlay ?

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Putting in new carpet above my studio- underlay ?

Post by zulusound »

Greetings,
I am putting in new carpet in the bedrooms above my studio, and I thought this might be a good time to add some sound/ shock absorbing material underneath. Is there anything within reason ($) that could dramatically help, in addition to a good quality standard padding?

Thanks

If your framing can take it, a layer of 3/4" particle board; THEN upgrade the padding (mostly footfall/impact noise INTO your studio). Nuthin' like more MASS to help with the low end... Steve
Soooo, when a Musician dies, do they hear the white noise at the end of the tunnel??!? Hmmmm...
