Hey there people...
Well, I've been on here for a bit, finally got some $$$ to start building, and decided to start my own thread on this site.
My name is Stan from the Bluegrass state of Kentucky. I've been playing guitar for about 30 years plus. I did some recordings in a couple of studios back in the early 70's and even did a little "eargineerin' " for a bit.
I developed a desire to write my own music and record it also. Back then you pretty much HAD to go to a studio to put something down if you wanted it to have that vinyl "quality" to it.
I've got my setup/equipment at another location, but after building a house, I decided it was time to design and build my own studio. I basically have a Midi studio where I'll be doing sequenced music 90% of the time.
I really don't have a need for an elaborate Live room or Drum Iso room, as I will basically only need a good vocal booth and a good control room.
How loud am I? Not very loud. I mean, I like crankin it up to get a good "feel" for what I'm doing, but to rumble the windows and doors in my house?? Naaaaaaaahhhhh, that's not me.
As far as the total amount of cash to do this...well, it will come in phases. I'm getting my basement finished, and ol' Stan got "1" room to do his studio stuff in. I'm allright with that though, cause I've got confidence someday I'll be able to build me one of those Reeeeeeeeeaaaal nice Studios like I've seen on this site! The $$$ for the studio is figured in with the total basement refinishing.
The basement is UNFINISHED at present. I just had a HVAC system installed specifically for the basement. As far as my studio is concerned, NO FRAMING has been done yet. The ducts are basically in place, and the framing is coming next.
***************OK...HERE'S HOW I AM...*******************
I'm the type of person that's VISUAL. I don't know about you, but I feel like this site is a GOLDMINE for what "we" are trying to do (you and me).
I feel like a pic is worth a 1000 words as they say. It's nice to "write" what you are doing, but Man-O-Man...that pic let's you SEE what you're trying to accomplish and if you're doing it WRONG or RIGHT. So, I got my digital camera and you can BE SURE you will see a LOT of pics on this thread. Know this though...Stan is NOT "Mr Carpenterman USA". I know how to do the "basic" carpentry stuff, but I'm not as skilled as some seem to be on this site.
I WILL most likely make mistakes, and I'm COOL
The first phase is my HVAC...
Even though it's in, I still have some concerns over: 1.)"How" it's installed, (mainly the ductwork) 2.) the paths the duct takes getting to the rooms and 3.) Insulation for the steel "I" beam and it's supports.
Let's get started...
The first drawing is the initial "sketch" of my studio...(Still waiting on the "real-deal" design
