Hello all,
I was wondering if someone has a suggestion about sealing the gap inbetween the window frame and the rough opening. The windows are secondary interior laminated glass windows set in secondary walls. I left a 1/4" gap for shimming out around the frames of the windows for easier installation.
- I could use a ton of acoustic sealant and fill the void.
- I could use the expanding spray insulation in a bottle.
- I could partially stuff the void with rockwool and then use acoustic sealant
to fill the rest of the gap.
Or I'm up for other suggestions.
Ultimately 1 layer of 5/8's gyps will butt up against the edges of the frame which are exposed 5/8" out of the rough opening. A second layer will cover the seam and front edges of the window frame. A typical detail I believe...
thanks:)

Sorry Andrew, still whackin' 'gators in the head; stuff your gaps with rockwool, leave about an inch from surface vacant; if you have extra drywall mud around you can use a 6" drywall knife or wide putty knife and push mud into the gap where your shims are; smooth it off flush, let dry, then caulk if necessary (cracks, uneven, etc) - then add your drywall layers and caulk as usual.
You could also use caulk, but if you do you need foam backer rod behind it (or insulation) - and mud has higher mass and less cost (usually)... Steve
