Condo has bass leaking into neighbor's apartment!

Hi All,
FIRST POST.


I just moved into a condo (new construction). The construction is great, you can't hear anything unit to unit. However, I have a loud stereo, and bass is carrying through to my neighbor's unit. Onlly low-end is leaking.

The builder suggested Cellouse sprayed into the wall between us. Sound like a good idea? Any other, relatively non-intrusive, cost-effective (under $500 preferrably, quoted $6/ft for the spray) ideas that are out there?

My buddy owns a company that does this stuff, he suggested dynamat and/or another layer of sheet rock over the existing.

The kind of insulation injection you´ve mentioned in your post can be very expensive. I concidered that option in my basement studio to reduse the low-end leakage from the condo above... it turned out to be less expencive to tear the floor in the condo apart and add layers of sand + insulation between the two floors.

Those types of injections might not be as effectfull as you may have hoped aswell. There is some kind of cheaper alternative (at least in Norway) thats mineral whool based but not rigid. It´s fragmented like cotton candy.

Nope. There's no substitute for Mass-Air-Mass, especially for the low-end bassy stuff. Read the stickies.
