Started to build!!!!!!

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Started to build!!!!!!

Post by malfunction »

Hello!!

So I finally got started with building my studio!!!

So far I've done everything pretty much by myself but once I get the floor done I'm going to have some friends over to help me.

The studio:
The studio is going to be mainly for my band but I will also be selling studio time so it is a commercial facility.

The space is a part of an old barn on my brothers farm so the rent is no problem

There's going to be a live room, a vocal booth, a small amp booth/storage, a control room and a small lounge.
The walls, the floor and the ceiling are all thick concrete so I'm not too worried about outside noise.

Every room will be constructed on floated floor. The floor joists are 50x50mm wood and on top there are 2 layers of 11mm chip board and 1 layer of 13mm gypsium board.
The audio cables run under the floor and the electrical cables will run inside the walls and ceiling.

The walls will be made of two thicknesses. The tracking room walls will have 100mm rockwool and 2x11mm gypsium board. The control room walls will be made of 100mm rockwool and 3x11mm gypsium board.

The floor is almost done except for the third layer which I will do within the next two weeks.

Here are some pictures for you people.

The floor joists(2x2) rest on rubber and all the cavities are filled with 50mm glasswool. On top of that theres first a layer of 13mm gypsium board and two layers of 11mm chip board. There will be a laminate as the floor finish.
And I've actually overstuffed some parts of the floor so it wont ring.
So the total thickness of the floor is going to be about 45mm(plus of course the 50mm joists).
