Acoustical Caulk vs Regular Caulk??

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Acoustical Caulk vs Regular Caulk??

Post by Steven »

We have an emergency situation. We are adding two layers of drywall to an existing structure sandwiched with green glue. We ran out of Sheetrock Acoustical Sealant for the first layer edges but want to get the job done today. Will regular Home Depot caulk NOT work? The place to get the acoustical sealant (AMS in Van Nuys) is closed. Unless anyone knows where to get the stuff on a Sunday in LA, we have no choice. any words of advice? Should we stay away from regular caulk?

Stay away from the regular caulk. Wait 'til AMS opens and get the right stuff.

I thought I had enough for my whole room -- five cases! -- and I ran out just doing my beef-up work!

If it's not to late, and you're DESPERATE, look for BUTYL based caulk. It's about $2 more per 10-oz tube than the acoustic stuff is for a 29 0z tube, but it will hold up... Steve
Soooo, when a Musician dies, do they hear the white noise at the end of the tunnel??!? Hmmmm...
