BASIC New studio construction for home recording studio

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

BASIC New studio construction for home recording studio

Post by bluesbill »

I'm building a house and dedicating a bedroom as a home recording studio. The room is 12 x 16 with a large closet 8 x 8.

I record acoustic/electric guitar, bass, drums - classic rock/blues. I have low watt guitar amps and don't play too loud. I'm looking for advice for
construction of the room:

- Walls (insulation?)
- Floors (wood, carpet, combination?)
- Smaller closet to increase room to 12 x 18 or
use closet for vocal mic or equipment room?
- Other advice?

Thanks for your help!

Bill, welcome; since you're literally starting from scratch, you can do quite a bit to make sure your music stays in the room and the noise stays outside - first, though, you can get a good start by visiting here

And editing your profile to include a location (helps us not have to look back three or 7 pages to find out where you're from when you ask where you can get things, as well as us being able to suggest things you may have actually HEARD of (this site is peopled from all over the world)

That same link will take you to the REFERENCE section, which in turn will likely give you some ideas about types of construction that may work better for you.

Where the BOLD points are, you'd probably put what you PLAN to do instead of what is already there

The more we know about your intended types of construction, the better we can help you avoid disappointment... Steve
Soooo, when a Musician dies, do they hear the white noise at the end of the tunnel??!? Hmmmm...
