What to put on my control room floor

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

What to put on my control room floor

Post by cmuller0420 »

Hey there everyone who reads this....I was curious as to what i should put in for flooring in my control room...the dimension of the room are 12'6 wide at one end, 11'6 at the other and 16ft long with (and i know this is the biggest downfall) 7'6 ceiling....should i go for carpet? i heard it wasn't very good...or should i go laminate or tile or hardwood? any advice would be great thanx.

With that low a ceiling, I'd put absorption (like at least 2" rockwool) over the entire ceiling, and keep the floor bright (except maybe for any spots on the floor where you could see either speaker reflected in a mirror) - for those spots, some heavy throw rugs will work.... Steve

By "bright", I mean any hard surface - stained concrete, pergo, vinyl flooring, but NOT carpet...
Soooo, when a Musician dies, do they hear the white noise at the end of the tunnel??!? Hmmmm...

can i assume this advice would hold true for a room measuring 10' w x 20' l x 7.5' h? The rock wool I have access too is not very rigid but designed as batt insulation. Advice on installing rock wool over the entire ceiling and still maintaining a nice appearance? In addition, would a cloud flying over the mix desk (aprx. 8 feet from front wall, centered between side walls) made up of 703 be that helpful if the entire ceiling is treated?

Thanks!

I did my studio ceiling by framing out the entire ceiling with 1x4's, attached the rockwool/703 to the ceiling then covered the entire thing with stretched muslin. Most people who see it in person don't even realize it's fabric. Check out my link below to see it in my control room.
