How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Unless you want something quick and marginal, I recommend sticking with multiple layer drywall (check the REFERENCE section for more) - Quietrock, when you finally get someone to quote a price, runs around $125 per 4x8 sheet. It can be equaled with 2 sheets of 5/8 drywall and a sheet of 3/8 drywall between, at a cost of about $22, or EXCEEDED by 2 layers of 5/8 drywall with Green Glue between them, at a cost of around $30.

Single-sheet solutions such as this have ANOTHER drawback; sealing. With multiple layers of drywall, you build so no two layers have the same seam coincidence, so there's no chance of a small gap anywhere if it's done right. With stuff like Quietrock, it's all one thick laminated layer so seams between 4x8 sheets are VITAL to get sealed. Good luck on that... :?

Next, Quietrock weighs about 170 pounds per panel, as compared to 74 pounds per panel with 5/8 wallboard; got a pet gorrilla you've trained as a helper??!?

You probably should read through the first 4 or 5 threads in the REFERENCE section for a better idea of what I'm talking about... Steve
Soooo, when a Musician dies, do they hear the white noise at the end of the tunnel??!? Hmmmm...

Not to mention a saw blade to cut the stuff. I hear it's a minor nightmare.

They get an A+ for marketing though! I almost drank the Kool-Aid myself!
