Speaker soffit question

When you build your speaker sofitt box, do you place your speaker on any kind of material in the box, or is the general concensus to just place the speaker in the box sitting directly on the wood?

When I had my nearfields on my recording desk, I had them sitting on a pair of Auralex MoPads.

That would partially depend on your soffit design; do you have one picked out, or do you want help with that also? Steve

Actually I'm using the design shown below. I just didn't know if the speaker should be sitting on something other than the plywood box?
